ROUTES FOR ALL STUDENT MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES

The Routes for All programme, based at GCU, operates in 17 Glasgow schools with S5 and S6 pupils. Our aim is to support pupils to progress to higher education at college or university once they leave school. The programme is delivered by teams of Student Mentors from GCU, who provide encouragement, inspiration and advice to young people who may struggle to make the transition from school to higher education. 

Student Mentors gain:

  • A rewarding experience, mentoring a group of young people during an eight-week programme
  • The chance to make a difference to the lives of young people in Glasgow
  • Experience of working in a school environment with full training and supervision
  • A pay of £7.65 per hour for a minimum of two hours per week 

 What we would like from our Student Mentors:

  • Commitment to work at least two hours per week on an eight week programme
  • The enthusiasm, inspiration and motivation to support young people
  • The willingness to act as an “ambassador” for GCU
  • Flexibility, empathy, high standards of communication and a desire to help young people by widening access to higher education

 In addition, Student Mentors must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be willing to complete a criminal records check under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme
  • You must be legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom
  • You must be able to adhere to high standards of professional conduct around young people in schools
